Development Officer

Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) seeks an experienced and energetic Development Officer to join a leading development department in raising resources to support civil legal aid and counsel for people who could not otherwise afford justice.  The Development Officer will research, identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors for major gifts ($5,000 or more); work with other Development team members to engage, inspire and fundraise from the legal community through a variety of drives; work closely with the Executive Director on Board relations; and develop and launch a planned giving program.   The Development Officer reports to the Director of Development. 

In this position, the Development Officer  is responsible for raising over $1 million in individual donations from major donors and has shared responsibility to raise an additional $3 million plus from the legal community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bachelor’s or advanced degree, J.D. is a plus;

·        Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in all aspects of individual giving through personal solicitation;

·        Ability to engage and inspire donors;

·        Excellent writing and organizational skills;

·        Strong personal work ethic, ability to manage diverse activities and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision;

·        Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word is required;

·        Proficiency in Raisers Edge or other fundraising database is preferred;

·        Passionate about and able to communicate the mission of civil legal aid;

·        The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver who remains calm under pressure and works well as a flexible member of the team;

·        A background in legal or social justice work strongly preferred.
