The Massachusetts Defense Lawyer Association (MDLA) is an association of lawyers involved in the defense of civil litigation. The MDLA is strongly committed to the gal of diversity in its membership. MDLA's member attorneys conduct business throughout Massachusetts, the United States and around the world. The MDLA values other perspective and varied experiences that are found only in a diverse membership. The promotion and retention of a diverse membership is essential to the success of the MDLA as a whole as well as to our members' respective professional pursuits. Diversity brings to the MDLA a broader and richer environment resulting in creative thinking and solutions. Thus, the MDLA embraces and encourages diversity in all aspects of its activities. The MDLA is committed to promoting and maintaining a culture that supports and promotes diversity in its organization, leadership and membership.
The MDLA believes that all people are enriched by understanding, is dedicated in improving the administration of justice; to improve that skills, effectiveness and professionalism of its members; to promoting collegiality and civility among all attorneys; to servicing the bar and the public by providing improved communications, improved legal services, improved relations and understanding.
In all of its activities, the MDLA strives to sustain an open exchange of ideas in an environment that embodies the values of professionalism, responsibility, integrity, and cooperation; that provides and atmosphere of mutual respect, free from racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice and intolerance; that assists its members, its member clients, the courts and public in responding to a continuously changing world; that is conscious of and respond to the needs of those it is committed to services; that creates and supports partnerships within the MDLA, with other bar organizations, with the courts, and with those its members service to achieve common goals; and that inspires, sets high expectations for, and empowers the individuals within its membership.
A diverse mix of members promotes respect for, and opportunities to learn from, others with the broad range of backgrounds and experiences that constitute modern society. Opportunities for leadership should be accessible for all members and membership should be accessible to all Massachusetts attorneys and others primarily involved in the defense of civil litigation.
